these three things

everyone makes discoveries once in a while.

for me, this week i have made a particularly alarming yet necessary one.

whilst i sat under the [imaginary] pondering tree, pondering, i began to wonder about the mystery of the disappearance of the free time in my life. what was taking up all of my precious minutes and hours in the day, so that by the end of it, i was left, once again stripped bare of some time for me? what was responsible for causing my creative pursuits to dry up and my hobbies to collect dust in the corner where i last left them many months ago? and my beautiful magazines which dutifully arrive at my door via the mailman every month only to be relegated to the top of a pile of ever-growing unread glossiness...

as suspected, i did not need to look far to find the answers.

coming in proudly at number one is, of course, little baby eamon :)

innocent and sweet-looking enough, but by far the biggest time-waster you will ever meet :)
while i was pregnant, a friend of mine was kind enough to pass on some wise words: "babies are the biggest time wasters, you'll see." this friend of mine had a child of her own, so she was undoubtedly speaking from experience.
hardee har HAR i thought to myself. that may be true for YOU but not for ME. i am the master of my time. and no newcomer baby creature will change that.
and how completely and utterly wrong i was! poor eamon :) it is a little unfair of me to hold him responsible, after all, he is barely 6 months old and not in any condition to speak for himself (yet). so i apologise eamon. mummy loves you very much but you do take up most of her time. but thats ok.

moving on.

cloth nappies. my second biggest time-consuming-thing. wonderful, wonderful things they are. hooray for the inventors of modern cloth nappies. i love them! i rate them highly, and they are cute too. but alas...they eat away at the minutes of your day like a ben descending upon his t-bone steak. zap! and its gone.
so yeah...they are lots of work but i do still recommend them to anyone who's willing to put the effort in for the sake of the environment and his/her wallet.
and they do look cute (did i already mention that?)

third and final time waster is...
there's this tv show on at 7:30 every night - yes you guessed it, katie is on the masterchef bandwagon. masterchef has been the master of my evenings since the series began many weeks ago. thanks to a good friend of mine who introduced me to the show in series one.
masterchef and i have come a long way and we've been through a lot together. we've battled it out through pregnancy backaches, morning sicknesses and general laziness on the couch...through to eamon's arrival and subsequent evening crying sessions, feeds and other things that come with babies. we've come a long way, masterchef and i.
for anyone who has not seen it and was thinking of watching the show now to see what its all about i advise to you go and do something else instead. you'll be better off without it (and you'll have more time!)

so if you were wondering why i never replied to your sms or called you when i said i would or returned your phonecall, or didn't notice you knocking on the door - now you know why....i was a little busy :)

so there you have it. my masterlist of master time wasters. love to hear what yours are :)

  7. I'm totally with you on the first 2 time wasters - but wouldn't change them for the world! But having never seen masterchef, i have no idea what you are talking about! [still only 4 channels for us on our mini 10yr old telly - which is plenty enough!]
My 3rd is tied equally between evening blog browsing and telly vege-ing - though I'm getting better at simultaneous crafting and tv viewing - knitting is good for that! a bit tricky with blogging though... :)

p.s. that line about ben and the steak had me in stitches! awesome post honey xx
