so the little boy was turning the big --2-- and it was time to make a celebration!
we (i) decided to go with a green apple theme as it sounded fun and would give me plenty of creative licence! i soon discovered that with all the different shades of green the possibilities were endless. green is a pretty popular colour for parties anyhow, so there was plenty available as far as supplies were concerned.
it wasn't long before i went green-apple-mad! yes i do have a tendancy to go a bit over-the-top! but it all came together wonderfully in the end and made for a fun morning for the kiddies! despite it being a typical hot and humid 38 degree february day (plenty of ice & water did not go astray!) things seemed to hold up alright in the heat!
i was easily more excited about his birthday than he was, but he was pretty impressed with all of his great presents (especially his tools!) and has been having a brilliant time playing with them all.
oh how i do love birthdays.
being quite new to the kids' party scene, of course there were a few failures, the birthday cake being one of them, hahaa! it still tasted great, and even looked ok but it was a wee bit stressful trying to make a sponge-cake into an apple-cake an hour before the party!
next time will buy cake, heehee, unless there are any offers from talented cake decorating family members/friends?
but i just loved seeing eamon so excited when he realised that it was his cake and he could finally blow out his own candles. such a darling.
thankyou dears, family & friends for making his day!

Love it! You should be a party planner. Now I have a craving for kid's birthday cake... x
ReplyDeleteTotally gorgeous Katie! Beautiful photos (and cute bus and monster too - nudge, wink)
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing party - the green is awesome!
I love that cute apple cake, but yes the cake is always a headache. Elise did my cakes for a few years - less stress for me. Now I'm back into it.
A few tips: bake the cake a couple of days before (if you're baking it) have it cold when you go to decorate it (even frozen) so the icing/cream/topping doesn't drag the crumbs off the surface, and decorate it the night before - gives you plenty of time to stuff around way into the wee hours of the morning, because inevitably it always takes 4 hours longer than what you planned!
In the end it's more important that the birthday boy is celebrated and having fun and not if the cake is a little less than perfect! xx heaps of love from all of us
